Girl Ray reveal their synth side for their second album and share the video for new single ‘Show Me More’.
Following their brilliant debut Earl Grey, The North London trio of Poppy Hankin, Iris McConnell and Sophie Moss have announced the release of their eagerly-awaited second album Girl (out 8 November via Moshi Moshi). Recorded at Electric Beach Studios in Margate with Ash Workman (Christine and the Queens, Metronomy), Girl sees Girl Ray shift their sound to feature sparkling synths but retain their penchant for tightly woven indie pop.
After a shimmering start, the track kicks in with a great groove. It’s the perfect blend of R&B and pop music the band love. The video (watch it below) reflects the effortlessly cool sound of the song, showing the band cycling around an urban park at dusk.
The lyrics haven’t lost any of their directness as Hankin sings “I held your hand now show me more”. There’s an element of deadpan in her delivery that adds to the confessional feel of the song. According to the band, ‘Show Me More’ is about “crushing really hard but having to play the long game and wait it out because your boo is playing savage games. It’s your classic pop banger. Steamy dance floor. Drinks on me.”
The band has also announced a UK tour in February 2020 with their biggest London headline show to date at Electric Ballroom. They have also been invited to play as special guests of Metronomy on their UK tour this November with a show at the Roundhouse in London.
If this teaser of their new material is anything to go by, Girl Ray are obviously ready to show us much more and we can’t wait.
