The Duke Spirit share the quirky new video for Houses as they build on the momentum from their momentous new album, Sky is Mine.
The Duke Spirit have been a busy band recently. While quantity doesn’t always equal quality, in the case of this band the opposite seems to be true. Their recent prolific spell has given us the majesty of last year’s critically acclaimed album KIN, the unexpected joy of November’s EP Serenade, a few captivating live dates and new album Sky Is Mine (out now via Ex Voto Records). It has been a welcome reinvigoration of this band who many may have assumed had split following a five-year gap between albums.
It’s the distinctive vocals and alluring presence of frontwoman Liela Moss that emanates – as usual – from new single Houses to a backdrop of stunning psychedelia. “We come to see you, wake up,” Moss calls out, the layers of her voice melting over the riff.
The video synchronises with the reverberating track, showing footage of people dancing – in particular, wiggling and winding their bodies with a look of liberation.
Talking about the album, Moss explains: “Sonically, it’s the most tender record we have made, the expansiveness will lift hearts but the rawness will burn through greedy fingers.”
With their foundations solid in a fiercely loyal fanbase, The Duke Spirit seem to be at home creating and experimenting as the mood takes them. Houses is more proof – not that proof were needed – that they are one of the UK’s most unique and exciting rock bands.
