Hinds share ‘The Club’ – another ridiculously catchy track from their eagerly-awaited new album ‘I Don’t Run’.
The Spanish quartet – Carlotta Cosials (vocals, guitar), Ana Perrote (vocals, guitar), Ade Martin (bass, backing vocals) and Amber Grimbergen (drums) – have shared another track from their highly-anticipated second album ‘I Don’t Run’ (out 6 April via Lucky Number).
Co-produced by Hinds and Gordon Raphael (The Strokes, Regina Spektor) and mixed by Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Perfume Genius, The War On Drugs), ‘I Don’t Run’ reflects on the band’s life-changing experiences – the adulation and the criticism – following the release of their stunning debut album ‘Leave Me Alone’ in 2016. As Perrote puts it: “On this album the struggles are clear. We want to be brave.” The release of the album will be followed by a run of tour dates where Hinds will bring their ridiculously fun and engaging live show back to the UK (dates below).
Album opener ‘The Club’ (listen below) is another example of a fuller sound from Hinds, following on from the release of first single ‘New For You’. Talking about ‘The Club’ the band said: “When we wrote The Club and first listened to it we couldn’t believe that we hadn’t write it before and that we hadn’t been listening to it for years. A friend said that it is more Hinds than Hinds themselves hahah. That’s why we chose putting it as the track 1 of the album. From now on it’s our presentation card.”
‘The Club’ has that familiar carefree and gloriously scuzzy-pop sound that we love them for, but the layered guitars and driving rhythm prove that they have plenty more to show us. The dual vocals of Cosials and Perrote, whether singing separately or dueting, sound full of attitude but also hint at the same vulnerability and anxieties that come across in their lyrics – “I know you don’t need a lover, but I don’t wanna go”.
Hinds are one of those bands that just make you want to join them – they work hard and play hard and that comes across in their joyous indie-pop and riotous live shows. I can’t wait to hear ‘I Don’t Run’ and I wish I was in their club.
