Honeyblood take us for a ride on a wave of invincibility with new song Sea Hearts.
In the wake of their storming comeback with Ready For The Magic – the first single from their forthcoming album, Babes Never Die (out 4 November on Fat Cat Records) – the Glasgow duo of Stina Tweeddale and Cat Myers share another stunning track.
Sea Hearts is an energetic and fuzz-filled indie shanty that has more than a hint of 90’s Elastica-styled punk and britpop moments in the style of Sleeper. It has the rock and grunge elements that Honeyblood fans are familiar with, but also proudly sets sail into pop punk territory.
Lyrically it’s a call to arms in the fight against heartbreak where friends battle together and win – “you give me superhuman strength” sings Tweeddale in this ode to friendship. Punky shouts of “hey hey it’s just a little heartbreak” will have you feeling unbeatable by the time the last chords are played.
The catchy chorus and bouncing hooks will ensure it quickly becomes a live favourite on their current tour, which they embarked on in Aberdeen on 25 September (see below for tour dates).
In Sea Hearts Honeyblood are the “breakers on the waves” breaking hearts that get in their way but, with this new album, they will surely be sailing into the hearts of a new wave of fans.
