We finally have news of the debut Kate Boy album – it’s called ONE and is due to be released in November via Fiction/Island/Iamsound.
More good news – they’ve shared new track Midnight Sun and it is electro-pop perfection.
Maybe it’s just that I’ve been hooked on stories featuring artificial intelligence recently (Humans, Ex Machina…I could go on) but the combination of punchy synths and Kate Akhurst’s sharp, pitch-perfect vocals gives this single a futuristic, icy sound whilst simultaneously radiating warmth. This made sense when I discovered that the band described it as “a song we wrote in the middle of winter here in Sweden, dreaming of the summer days we now have.”
The track was self-produced with help from Christoffer Berg who has worked with The Knife (where there are obvious similarities in sound) and Depeche Mode.
If androids dream of the midnight sun, I like to think this is the soundtrack.
