At a time when Chvrches have just announced the release date for their new album and previewed a few new songs, London duo New Arcades are in danger of falling slightly short on a sound that could be as addictive as the Scottish trio.
London Duo Dean Canty and Adam Sullivan do run the risk of being directly compared to Chvrches and it’s hard not to make the comparison as the Glaswegian band are arguably leading the current (and much welcomed by me) synth pop revival. New Arcades have the vibrant synths, punchy bassline and, on this track, the addition of evocative female vocalist Lula (a friend of theirs) – there are definite similarities and that’s no bad thing.
The only issue for me is that, because of that comparison, this track always feels like it takes off but never reaches its full height. Funnily enough I’m left wanting more than this. Again, maybe this isn’t a bad thing. This is an uplifting electro-pop track and hopefully their next offering will go stratospheric.
