La Luz Single Review – Don’t Wanna Be Anywhere

In 2013 they released their debut album, had a high-speed car accident and then returned to tour like the troopers they are. Now self-styled ‘surf-noir’ Seattle band La Luz are back with a new track from their forthcoming second album.

Don’t Wanna Be Anywhere is the second single from Weirdo Shrine and has all the twanging guitars and harmonies you’d expect from La Luz’s 60s doo-wop inspired style. However, the swinging surf sound shimmers above the darkness of the lyrics, which are about death. The first line is “I don’t wanna be anywhere, you have not breathed the air” and the sighing, almost breathless, vocals throughout the song fit perfectly with the words.

It’s not only cleverly written, it’s addictive listening.

Luckily, we don’t have to wait long for the next fix as the new album is out on 7 August via Hardly Art and you can catch the unique La Luz live experience at the following dates:
10.16.15 – Brighton, UK – Bleach
10.17.15 – Manchester, UK – The Eagle Inn
10.19.15 – Glasgow, UK – The Hug & Pint
10.20.15 – Leeds, UK – Brudenell Social Club
10.21.15 – Cardiff, UK – Four Bars at Dempseys
10.22.15 – London, UK – Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen
